He grad- uated in 1988 from the University of Tokyo's Faculty of Economics and, in 1992, received a doctor- ate in economics from Osaka University, where he specialized in labor economics. From 1992 to 2002, he was successively Lecturer, Associate Professor, and Professor at Gakushin University's Faculty of Economics. Prof. Genda is a member of the Special Committee of the Cabinet Office's Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy. Shigoto no Naka no Aimai na Fuan (Chuokoron-Shinsha, 2001), the Japanese edition of A Nagging Sense of Job Insecurity, received the Suntory Prize for Social Science and Humanities, as well as the Nikkei Economic Book Award.
