Aaron Hoopes is the founder of Zen Yoga, a blend of peaceful Tai Chi movement, energized Qigong breathing, and relaxing Shanti Yoga stretching. He has spent over 25 years studying Eastern phi- losophical, physical, and spiritual traditions. He has a degree in Japanese history and culture from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S.A.. From 1986-1989, he trained at the headquarters of the Japan Karate Association (JKA) in Tokyo, Japan. In 1994, he earned his third degree black belt and became a shidoin (instructor) with the JKA Sakai Shibu in Osaka, Japan. Mr. Hoopes is the author of four books: Update: Japan - How to Live and Work in Japan. (Intercultural Press, 1992); Perfecting Ourselves: Coordinating Body, Mind and Spirit (Turtle Press, 2002); Breathe Smart: The Secret to Happiness, Health and Long Life (ZY Press, 2005); and Zen Yoga: A Path to Enlightenment through Breathing, Movement, and Meditation (Kodansha International, 2007). He has also created the deep relaxation/guided meditation program Inner Sunrise and the Zen Yoga Daily Warm-Up DVD. Mr. Hoopes spent nine years in Australia studying at the Shanti Yoga Meditation Institute. He has combined his knowledge of both soft- and hard-style martial arts with the yogic traditions of India to create a personal training method that allows anyone to begin helping themselves feel better immediately. He has traveled the world teaching his methods and creating a Zen Yoga organization dedicated to spreading this simple method of breath and movement. He has presented hundreds of workshops and written numerous articles.
