 Don Kenny treated us to a talk about Kyogen, a traditional form of Japanese theater.  The talk was punctuated by performances by himself, Rintaro Hariu, and June Compton. The next two shots are from their performances. Don Kenny also played the harp and sang some songs in Japanese and English.







 
BOOKCLUBS

On 15 July, BOOK-CLUB members will discuss: Tournament of Shadows: The Great Game and The Race for Empire In Central Asia by Karl Meyer & Shareen Brysac.

On 8 July, members of our Non-Native Speakers’ group will discuss The Great Gatsy by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

A man told me he was writing a novel about a strange man in a bookstore.  Where did his inspiration come from?

Talking of strange: Mary Brunner was a librarian.  She was also the mother of Charles Manson’s first child.

Mao Tse Tung also worked in a library.  Overlooked for advancement, he moved into another field.

Camus’ The Stranger came in recently. It was stamped like a passport, with one of its “visas” being from Quetzaltenango, Guatemala!
