Mark Schilling, author of The Yakuza Movie Book, gave us an insight into a different world when he talked about “Yakuza Movies.” His talk was illustrated by movie clips from a DVD player as shown in the next column.

The Good Day Books’ BOOKCLUB discussion series is proving to be very popular. The focus has changed from the Middle East to China. Three new members have joined, taking the group to capacity.  We have started another discussion group, for non-native speakers of English.  It will start on April 9th.  The first text is Animal Farm.

Conan the Librarian says:

“Reading is the basics for all learning.” George W. Bush’s sentiments may be admirable, but not his grammar.  Reading seems to be a selective activity for him: “I don’t read what’s handed to me.” Perhaps he looks at it: “One of the great things about books is sometimes there are some fantastic pictures.” This from a librarian’s husband!

You can’t get here from there if you don’t know where there is.

Requesting a list of cheaper and better bookstores only gains confusion.  You are where you want to be.

We cannot buy from those who do not know what they are selling.

We are “unmoved” by the statement “you are getting harder and harder to find.”

First, scrolls. Then pages. Now scrolling on screens.  Forward to the past?

Request a used, out-of-print book.  We find it and tell you. You come and exclaim, “But this is used!” Knowing what one really wants is sometimes harder than dancing with an octopus.
