Manabu Miyazaki, author of Toppamono: My Life in Japan's Underworld, spoke to an enthralled audience on life as a: “Thoroughbred Yakuza."
The questions kept on coming and coming, and Mr. Miyazaki spoke well beyond his allotted time.  Mr. Miyazaki is sitting next to the translator, who did an outstanding job.

Kathy Weller wrapped up her Origami Workshops on December 18.  We got very positive feedback from her students and it is expected that several Christmas Trees will be decorated in a similar fashion to the tree in Good Day Books. One person even wants private origami lessons at Good Day Books!

Conan the Librarian says:

“Where is the book I saw here a few years ago?”
“I guess we sold it.  We are a bookstore.”
“I thought this was a library. You mean I can buy books here?”
“Yes.”
“Where do you keep the books with words in them?”
“Um, they all have words in them.”
“I mean words about words.”
“Dictionaries?  We keep them down here.”
“No, I mean words about sayings.”
“Ah, books about idioms?”  He shrugged, as the word seemed novel to him, but he didn’t demand, “Who are you calling an idiom?”
Reading seemed alien to him, so I dug up a couple of idiom books which he spent a minute with, and then shelved in the poetry section.
It was not “buckets” of laughs, but the funny bone was tickled.
We wish you a happy holiday season and hope to see you all again soon.
