James L. Huffman  gave an interesting talk about the life of Meiji-era  journalist  Edward H. House.  The talk ranged from House’s



contradictory attitude toward imperialism to his spat with Mark Twain, who returned from the dead to present his side.


 

We congratulate Professor Donald Keene for being awarded the Order of Culture.  Professor Keene, one of the pioneers in introducing Japanese literature to the world, is pictured below during his October 2008 talk at  Good Day Books.
