Eamonn Fingleton’s latest book is In the Jaws of the Dragon:  America’s Fate in the Coming Era of Chinese Hegemony. The title of his talk, “Blindside Ver. 2”, derives from his first book Blindside: Why Japan is Still on Track to Overtake the U.S. by the Year 2000. To attend this talk, you’ll need to buy from our shop a copy of In the Jaws of the Dragon.

Stephen Mansfield (shown below) emphasized “the warmth of the city” in his talk on the cultural and literary history of Tokyo.  His wide-ranging talk and the ensuing



discussion ranged from the city’s Taoist “submission to constant flux” to its subterranean earthquake shelters.
