Peter Sharpe will discuss lan- guage and  related issues  in his talk “Sharpe’s Language.” Mr. Sharpe had earlier worked on Kodansha’s Communicative English-Japanese Dictionary. His latest book Language: The Big Picture is aimed at linguistics students but may be enjoyed by anyone interested in language. To attend this talk, you’ll need to buy a copy from our shop.

Eamonn Fingleton (shown below) provided the audience with much food for thought during his talk on the upcoming era of Chinese economic hegemony.



He maintained that the analysis of his earlier book Blindside: Why Japan Is Still on Track to Overtake the U.S. by the Year 2000 is still valid.  His talk  preceded a spirited question-and-answer session.

Progress report: Our intrepid duo continued their Tokaido Road hike from Abekawa. to Fujieda through Utsunoya Pass.  During their walk, they encountered temperatures as high as 35.5 C !
