BookNotes Speaker Series

In case you haven't heard,  on Sunday, 01 August, Donald Keene will speak at Good Day Books about his most recent book,  So Lovely a Country Will Never Perish: Wartime Diaries of Japanese Writers (Columbia Univ. Pr., 2010) . The diaries selected by Professor Keene provide illuminating personal accounts written by gifted writers, some of whom he knew well, concerning conditions in Japan during World War II and the immediate postwar years. Weaving archival materials together with personal reflections and the diaries themselves, Professor Keene has produced an entirely original portrait of wartime and post- war Japan. To attend Professor Keene's upcoming BookNotes presentation, you must buy from Good Day Books a copy of So Lovely a Country Will Never Perish.
The 24 copies of So Lovely a Country .... that were delivered to our shop on 05 July have all been sold. An additional 10 copies will be delivered next Monday, 26 July, which will be our last new book delivery before Professor Keene's presentation. We expect that these 10 copies will be sold by Thursday of next week, 29 July.

During the next several months, our BookNotes speakers will include:
Iguchi Takeo, the author of Demystifying Pearl Harbor: A New Perspective from Japan (I-House Pr., 2010).
Jeff Kingston, the author most recently of Contemporary Japan: History, Politics, and Social Change since the 1980s (Wiley-Blackwell, 2011).
